Hi there,

I'm planning to build an AMD a6-3500 based ITX - htpc and wanted to ask for feedback on the following case and the external 110w psu that comes with it:

Can anyone comment on the quality of the case and the psu?
On a sidenote: is it worth trying to run a 100w tpd apu (like the a8-3870) on a 110w psu?

Thanks in advance

Very nice case I love Lian Li....

110 might be cutting it....

You can always try. But yes the a6-3500 would run perfect.

Lian li should have a decent power supply.

If you want and A8 100W then you can always get a 150W picoPSU with the right tip so you can use the existing hole on that case and don't drill anything.

One negative thing about this case: its not high enough to fit a Big Shuriken in there. (tech spec states max cooler height: 40mm)
I'll most likely give the Scythe Kozuti a try... which is exactly 40mm

If it is A6-3500, 110W should be perfect for it. If it is me, I wouldn't want to use A8-3870K in it. If you want to install the A8-3870K in it, I'm recommending this "picoPSU-160-XT + 192W Adapter Power Kit" instead.....

be careful with the cooler, the shuriken wont fit!

Lian-Li-PC-Q09F version have a little more room for a cooler (height: 124mm )
compared to the Lian-Li-PC-Q09 (height: 110mm )...

also Lian-Li-PC-Q09F uses an internal Flex PSU.
which can always be replaced by a Pico di Gallo of course.

thanks for the quick responses!

@eskro: totally missed that one..
i actually have a fanless FlexATX PSU left (Fontron FSP150-50TNF) that was supposed to make my n40l Unraid / NAS silent.. but that sounds like the perfect place to put it.
the F Version should also be high enough to put my old satix sky xpress tuner card in there - although i'd have to drill a hole for the antenna cable

Here are pictures of my PC-Q09FA build (now our family PC):

I never got around to writing a review but here are a couple of gotchas I ran into during the build:

Actually, I wrote a review and Blogger ate it. I never went back and fixed it up.

Recently I removed the noisy 92mm case fan.

I posted my build with the PC90F here; http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=128867&page=2

I love the quality of the case personally. The anodized aluminium finish is great, but just be aware of how difficult it is to repair scratches and scrapes to an anodized metal.

Great case in my opinion. A good compromise on space and height. Not too low like the Wesenas that I was looking at, and not too high like a similar Silverstone. Go for the PC-90F to save yourself a few headaches if the extra height won' be a problem.

My one big dislike with the PC-Q09 is the lack of a slot. There feels like there is room there for it but they didn't include it. I also don't like how the optical drive cover works. You have to remove it and now you see the tray of the drive. This is not good for the silver or other color cases. Black is ok.

There is a new version of the PC-Q09 BTW called the PC-Q09"N"
