So the HDD in my apple TV mysteriously crashed and I decided to swap it out and start over with my USB stick (created with sam's GUI)

I've tried this over and over and it always hangs here:

i've left it for hours, even over night and the screen just goes black.

any help would be awesome! thanks ahead!

It cannot resolve the hostname. Does your AppleTV have network access?

yes, it's connected via LAN into an airport express (used as a repeater) but since this has been brought up I will do a direct modem connection when I get home today.

Either Sam's website is down, or you have a problem with the network connection. That's why it says 'svn.stable.com ... failed: Name or service not known.'

Giving the Apple TV a direct connection to my router worked like a charm! I guess my Airport Express doesn't grant connection during boot up, who knows why…

now for some reason I've lost use of my remote, no idea what's happened.
