Hi All not sure if this is even possible but as i have multiple xbmc boxes running throught the house (bedroom, living room, kids room ...etc) it be VERY cool if I was able to call the kids down from there rooms by using XBMC as video intercom system over the network as opposed to yelling up 2 flights of stairs. I think this would be a great addon for familys using XBMC in Multiple rooms especially if it was also integrated into the offical android remote.

Probably not something that would make it into core xbmc, but I agree that would be a great addon. I think there are a couple of people working on getting a Skype addon going. If they're successful in that, I think it would supersede this

How about using a telephone? Or your feet? I'm getting more and more impressed of the fact what people seem to think what a Media Center should do.

But its only my opinion that it should handle media databases and play media Wink

Its increasingly turning into a hub for doing everything basically we can imagine, the awesome part of the addon structure!

Video conferencing can be viewed as a type of media Smile

Remember how phones were only used to make phone calls? Wink

Simple Video conferencing is a GREAT idea for an HTPC.

I would suspect it could be done with an addon though.

HTPC - XBMC Frodo, MCE remote, 40gb intel ssd, core i5, 4gb ram | Storage - 2 x qnap 8tb 419p+ NAS | Display Samsung 46" LCD + Acer HD projector
Kitchen - Wall Mounted Motorola Xoom tablet | Mobile - Ipad 2 | My setup pics

The skype addon will be great and i can't wait to use it but i don't want my kids having a Skype account (not yet at least) and with skype you can only speak with one person at a time but an internal intercom system run locally over the network using XBMC as the hub i think would be a great addition to an already GREAT program.

I think you can multi-chat in skype. The problem is there would be a duplication of effort. Video conferencing software is a field all on it's own, so if you have the ability and drive to create a videoconferencing solution from scratch, you're probably going to release it as a commercial product. I am doubtful that you will see a solution in xbmc that is not an extension of some existing video conference service.

@Memphiz, I agree that it's not something xbmc core should do. I disagree that it's not a valuable ability to have from an addon. I liken it to the Official Android Remote's ability to pause media for an incoming call.

I +1 the intercomm idea!

I had the same idea and just did a google search to see if anyone has created such an add-on. That search brought me here.
