Hello ppl,

I recently bought an Apple TV running 5.0.1 (as older models sadly were hard to come by). I'm about to do a tethered jailbreak tonight, which I figure will be quite ease.

As for the installation of XBMC itself, I'm a bit puzzled. The sticky (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127369) contains 7 commands, whereas other guides I came across contain 12 commands. For example: http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2012/05/02/i...r-windows/

My gut tells me to go with the sticky, but just in case: anybody know why the two differ?

And, just in case: is there any chance of bricking, or is it a matter of trying it until I get it right?

Use the sticky. The other guide installs updatebgone and stops updates of ios but xbmc has that as a dependency now.

Well, I'm stumped.

Jailbreaking - OK
Tethered boot - OK
Installing XBMC through SSH - OK

All of these steps went by without any errors. However, I still end up in Apple's native OS, with no option to select XBMC. XBMC installed fine (whenever I try to reinstall it through SSH it tells me all packages are already there), I just don't have a clue how I actually boot it up.

Now... how exactly do I go from here?

Thanks for the help, it's driving me nuts that I cannot figure what's going wrong.

There should just be an Icon for it on the atv2 interface? Xbmc will not automatically boot (unless you install something else) There was a Beigelist issue that was causing this but last I read it was fixed.

I tried the beigelist-fix too, but no results. When I look at the settings it shows the FC-logo, so the jailbreak itself went fine.

As long as you are jailbroken and then followed these instructions here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127369) and they all worked then there is no reason why it shouldn't be there.

Nope. I tried jailbreaking it again, went through all the instructions in the sticky, but nothing.. Just the regular ATV Menu screen.

There were no errors in the install? Maybe install it again and copy the output of the log to paste bin then post the link here?
