I got a new Seagate 3tb drive and can't get it to show up on Ubuntu.
It shows perfectly with windows.
I can see it in disk utility but when I try to create a partition table I keep getting an error.
I even tried to partition it with windows to two smaller section but Ubuntu doesn't see it. Says the drive is unknown.
Anyone else find a solution.
It's a Zotac ion md by the way.

Make sure you use gptfdisk to format the drive, not the regular fdisk.
Parted should support GPT as well, but gptfdisk will do a lot of the legwork for you (don't know if parted does). I believe you can use the legacy MBR layout if you were to use more than one partition (and none bigger than 2 TiB).
