I went through the same diliemma about a year ago. I ended up going with a (fully) back-lit LED. The matte screen, PC-friendliness, and durability of LCD, with teh deep blacks, good color of LCD II researched for about a month before I settled.
Pioneer and Samsung were my top choices. Pioneer being my first.
Refresh rates, many are not true, unprocessed 120hz (if any?) As fro viewing angles, IPS is usually the best choice, I foudn that 90% of the sets ofer 47 inches were always ISP panels.

if my budget was around £500-800, would plasma then be better?
We have at home a samsung ps43d450 which is really nice for what we paid BUT reflections are an absolute bitch/horrible. Do the current newer plasmas in my price range combat this somehow? Major Props Poofy and Eskro! Check out their sigs for the best help/advice. |

LED bith a matte screen ahs teh best of all worlds. A conclusion i came to after my researching. If i was in a perpetually-dark basement with no windows, I'd probable go for glossy, but reflections but the hell out of me, and matte screens (mine at least) reflect next to nothing. That, mixed with the IPS panel, make for easy, consistent viewing from extreme angels.

I'd get myself an OLED TV if I had the money for it:

its the D8000 LED from samsung vs the HX583 from sony.
The HX583 is destroying every LED from a picture quality standpoint from reputable websites who don't buy into the voice control bullcrap. its expensive but cheap relative to the other premium LEDs... however input lag is not great and it is a glass panel screen (looks beautiful but will it cause suparreflect in dark scenes? if people have reccomendations please, give us a shout.
