I am using the Broadcom crystal hd adapter on an apple tv 1 bcm70015.

The problem is that hw decoders may not take all formats. If it can't handle a format, it falls back to software decoding.

I checked the specs out for the bcm70015 and it states it supports sd content. please see link below.

am i safe to assume that pretty much all content will be decoded using the crystal hd adapter rather than a mix of hardware and software? it states it supports xvid and divx...

cheers

The card supports it, but the card drivers do not.

Correction, the card (bmc70015 only), lib and driver support the 'spec', however I have found that xvid and divx are encoded by lots of crappy encoders which do all sorts of strange and bazar things that I have disabled them from being decoded by crystalhd. Only ffmpeg seems to be flexible and forgiving enough to handle this garbage.
