Unraid server meeting capacity
#1
I have an unraid server which I think over the next few months I'll reach full capacity in terms of hard drives. I opted for the mid sized tower which I think holds 10 drives max? It's the Frsctal designs mid ( correct me if I'm wrong on number of drives). What are my options and how do I transfer drives to not lose an data or disrupt what is a beautiful server in operation with no flaws ATM.
Major Props Poofy and Eskro! Check out their sigs for the best help/advice.

You asked a critical question which most people won't think about until they've pulled the cables and removed the hard drives, only to realize, they have no clue what order to put in, and what drive should be connected to SATA1, SATA2,.......

You MUST do this,..take a Black Sharpie Marker, open your current case.
If you've installed your drives top-bottom with SATA1 connection at the top and so forth down,..then mark the topmost drive as DRIVE_1,...and do the same for the others.

Another critical thing to do is: Take a screen shot of the Tower webpage showing your drive's order and their serial numbers. This will show you the order you need to install the drives into the new case. Just make sure you connect SATA1 to Drive1,..and so forth all the way down the line.

Hope this helps!

I'd rather Supermicro cages than the Norco backplane

Needed something that was going to be quiet.

8 3.5" hot swap drives
2 5.25" drives
1 5.25 that fits only a 3.5"
