Linux Linux Mint Debian: XBMC Crashes Upon Playing Video
#1
Hi all,

Apologies if I miss any information. I freely admit, I'm not a computer guy, I know very little about computers.

I'm using XBMC version 11.0~rc2-0.0 (According to aptitude) and my version on Linux Mint Debian is 3.2.0-2-amd64. Crash log is here: http://dpaste.com/752032/

The problem I have is clearly only specific to me since I bought a new computer so I'm not expecting it to be reproducible. Music works fine within XBMC, however, Videos don't. I click on the item to play, it seems to load it up, I see a flash of a picture on the screen and then XBMC crashes back to the Desktop. It used to work fine on my old computer.

Please do let me know if I've left anything out. Smile

First thing you need to do is update to XBMC v11 final. You're using Release Candidate 2, which is kind of like a beta version. Test with v11 and see if you have the same issue.

Hi,

Thanks, how would I do that on Linux Mint Debian? I tried to add the repository from http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...u/HOW-TO_1 which gets stuck on the line
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
Returning this:
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/add-apt-repository", line 65, in <module>
    if not sp.add_source_from_line(line):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/softwareproperties/SoftwareProperties.py", line 630, in add_source_from_line
    (deb_line, file) = expand_ppa_line(line.strip(), self.distro.codename)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/softwareproperties/ppa.py", line 47, in expand_ppa_line
    sourceslistd = apt_pkg.Config.find_dir("Dir::Etc::sourceparts")
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Config'

You will have to compile it from source at the terminal on the LMDE machine, or wait until XBMC 11.0 final is released in the next LMDE update. Instructions for compiling from source can be found here:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...ian/Ubuntu

I was able to do this on my LMDE machine.

Hi,

At ./configure (what's the difference between using the external libraries or not?) I get the following error:
Code:
checking for main in -ltiff... no
configure: error: Could not find a required library. Please see the README for your platform.

I can't see anything about this in either README.linux or README.ubuntu.

What am I missing please? Smile

I've updated aptitude and it definately shows as the following:
Code:
Package: xbmc
New: yes
State: not installed
Version: 11.0~rc2-0.0

Hi,

Have got XBMC to compile using the the instructions posted above. I'm now running XBMC 12 Alpha 2, but it still won't play video. Here is the latest crash log.

http://paste.ubuntu.com/1008028/

Any ideas please?

Hmm. It does this for all videos no matter what they are?

I've tried a few different videos and they all crash. Would more crash logs help?
