Here's my setup;

eden from xbmcbuntu usb on a dell latitude D620

vga out> vga to component converter> "old" Sony CRT TV that can display up to 1080i.

Here's my problem;

Via any video source all the blacks wash out in darker pictures.

At first I thought it was the converter but I tried using xbmc on a friends mac and the video was much clearer.

I changed the render method to basic shaders and turning off hardware acceleration but it was no help.

Searching the forums I have seen some posts talking about xorg.conf and making video adjustments but I am a noob and cannot make heads or tails of what to do next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as watching "Game of Thrones" is particularly painful right now with the washed out blacks.

if you by washed out mean too dark in dark scenes I had that problem. It was TV related.
Dynamic something had to be disabled. Dynamic Contrast perhaps
