I won't use Samsung drives or older WD drives (EADS), but I like most of the rest. My official list is in my stickied thread at the top of this forum.

And before anyone asks what my qualification is, let me post a screenshot of my one-of-a-kind mediaserver with 12 different 1.5tb and 2tb hard drive models:

I collect hard drives like some people collect stamps.

Wondering what you guys use with out troubles?

Huh

Anything with a good warranty

check this out: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.p...ic=20472.0

2TB Seagate $99 - 5 yr warranty at bestbuy

Yes I saw that but its a 7200 RPM drive.... if you take a look. And I heard seagate's 5900 RPM drives require a little more juice and something else.

Is there a preferred RPM? What's the difference?

5,400 .... 5,900 if preferred for low state power consumption...

Poofy .... I understand why not use the older EADS.... I have one and it does get a little hotter about 4C more....

I bought the SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 HD204UI and everything seems doing well.....

Actually the temps are colder on it about 4-6C from my Hitachi and EARS.... witch is a plus....

One thing I noticed on it is that it is a little LOUDER at wake up about 2 seconds....

The other ones I have they are quiet at wake up.....

No big deal.... but say you have tons of this F4's in your rig and are close to the server you are going to hear them pretty loud if they all spin up at the same time.

Ummm now I am debating for the noise wize if I should of gotten the WD WD20EARX even they have bad reviews.... I guess ill just keep the F4 and give it a shot... being too picky.

The EARX is my newest one so I can't completely judge it yet but so far so good. My main problem with Samsungs is I think they underreport temps.

No because of conflicting reports of its usefulness in Unraid and the concept that I could do it later if I had problems. I wanted to give them a shot without tweaking to see if I can recommend them to people who wouldn't tweak.

But seriously I have only had it for a very short time and I haven't even run all my speed tests on it yet. I will report back when I have a real feel for the drive. So far the only thing I notice is how cool it runs.

Hitachis are still my fav Unraid drive for now.
