Win Player wont play Blu-ray if the software "AnyDVD HD" is turned off.

Hi all, for some reason, the player wont play any Blu-ray discs if the software "AnyDVD HD" is turned off. I even uninstalled both and rebooted, then re-installed xbmc player.

The DVDFab media player still plays Blu-rays fine though, and it uses XBMC.
Any help would be appreciated for this strange situation.

That because XBMC is not a decrypter....

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Hi thanks for the reply. That was the first thing thought of, however i read all through the wiki and it never once mentioned, "oh by the way you need a separate descriptor for blu-ray", and as the site is active ie "XBMC Audio goes HD May 30th, 2012", surely such a basic thing as that you can't play blu-ray with this would have been mentioned somewhere in the wiki? That's one of the main things people would be doing with it. Blu-ray has been out now for at least 3 years. I read "HOW-TO:Install XBMC for Windows" this is the section where at the end it would say, "Note: you need separate descriptor for blu-ray." I am a tech user so imagine how non tech users would feel? I also read: "XBMC Quick Start Guide" and it also did not mention anything about needing a descriptor for blu-ray. In fact the wiki has no mention of the word "bluray" or "blu-ray" when I searched it. Considering how HUGE blu-ray is in home theater ie that's why people have huge screens etc.. and is where the software is aimed, and the just finished "XBMC Audio goes HD May 30th, 2012" developing super sound why would you have super sound but not super picture? or even not mention it in the how to manual which is what the wiki is?

Something just does not make any sense.

It would take 2 seconds at the end of the installation guide to put "does not support blu-ray, get your own descriptor".

Any thoughts any one? I know its a volunteer project and I appreciate that, just trying to understand is all.

You obviously didn't search very hard, 1st hit on google search with the following "blu ray xbmc wiki" point to the http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBM...ecific FAQ which has the following:

Quote:Does XBMC for Windows support Blu-ray or HD DVD playback with or without menus?
Qualitatively no. There is not yet any C/C++ open source software out there yet capable of fully playing back Blu-ray or HD DVD. FFmpeg (the open source codec-suit that XBMC uses) is able to decode all audio and video codecs used in both Blu-ray and HD DVD, but, even as that might be the case, you still have to get around the DRM encryptions used by the disc formats and there is not yet any C/C++ open source software library capable of that on-the-fly, nor is there any C/C++ open source software library out there capable of displaying Blu-ray or HD DVD menus. XBMC need C/C++ open source software libraries for all of these things to fully support Blu-ray or HD DVD playback. With that said, XBMC does support .m2ts extensions, as well as the decoding and playback of all Blu-ray and HD DVD video and audio codecs. Most current audio limitations are a function of hardware related issues.
That is slightly out of date as decrypted blu ray disc's or iso files will work, however all the comments about DRM & menus still holds true.
