I'm also experiencing this problem and I'm running the latest opdenkamp/dushmaniac pvr git build under Ubuntu 11.10. His fork was recently merged with xbmc mainline master so I'm assuming it's related to the new AudioEngine features mentioned on the xbmc.org homepage as I was running his prior master merged release and didn't experience this issue.
From my fault finding it looks related to the transcoding of AAC 5.1 to AC3 5.1 (my receiver only supports 2ch pcm, ac3 and dts) and occurs in live tv and media played from disk. I only have h264/aac sources so I don't know if the video codec is an issue and happens whether I have VAAPI enabled or not. The stuttering stops when the live tv programme changes to an AAC 2.0 stream (which gets transcoded as 2ch PCM for me) and also if I change the audio output from HDMI to analog when an AAC 5.1 stream is playing. Gyruss it would be interesting to see if the stuttering stops for you if you also tweak this setting to confirm we're experiencing the same bug. The transcoding of the audio itself actually works very well and plays flawlessly.

I also tried to submit this as a bug on the trac site earlier but it wouldn't let me in using my forum credentials and I couldn't see a separate signup page anywhere.

My audio is through an optical cable, Setting it to 2.1 rather than 5.1 stops the stutter.
I havent tried setting to analogue as I wouldnt get any sound if I did. I have now reverted back to Eden final which works perfectly OK although I will check the nightlys occassionally to see if anything is fixed. Which brings me to a different thing - is it possible to install 2 different versions of XBMC? (ie eden & a nightly). |

I've created a new ticket for this in the bug tracker http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/13093 - there's nothing wrong with the trac login page it's just that usernames are case-sensitive

Anyone got any news on this bug? I've recently upgrading my graphics card but this has made no difference.

Gyruss, had a similar problem as you...nightly/stutter/spdif. convinced it was the video but ended up being the audio...after install somehow the audio input was 'shifted'. i have my speakers on 3.1 (too laz to setup the rear speakers) and now all works well again.
Silly me talking to myself to a yr old thread
