High CPU Usage Ubuntu 16.04
#1
Hi!

Recently I installed the new Ubuntu 16.04 (server, LXDE+Openebox) but I tested some videos with same problem: after an hour of play, Kodi increases CPU usage 7-8% per core to more than 35-40% per core (with or without playing video), playing the same file and then normally ceash, or if not, I have to restart it for CPU usage returns to normality.

It's very curious, because the problem is progressive and starts exactly at hour (+-15 min), the CPU goes from 7-8% per core to 15, then 20, then 25, then 30...finally I see the total CPU usage from 30% to 130 :S

I tested it with FRESH install, no additional packages or programs, only Kodi 16.1 and openbox.

I have 3-4 debug log, nothing interesting: http://pastebin.com/2gmtGKWi

The same test in Openelec (Kodi 16.1 RC2) works nicely, over 2-3 hours playing 1080p with normal CPU usage and when I return to main menu, the CPU usage is normal...so I don't know what I can do.

Thanks and regards.

30-35 minutes playing:

after 1 hour:

* You can see in the first pic "House 1x01...35 minutes", in the second pic Kodi played the first epiisode (42 minutes) and 22 minutes of the second, 64 minutes in total.

Another debug log, this time with Kodi 17: http://pastebin.com/kTgbrxcq

PS: Tested again with latest LibreELEC stable and works PERFECT, so the problem is kodi+ubuntu 16.04

Reproduce with stock skin and v17. Provide the top H screenshot output aft the high cpu load appears, also a Debug Log after that high load starts.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Yep, this is Kodi 17 stock (purged and deleted .kodi folder) and 16.04 server with only this packages installed: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955

Now I'm starting again with fully debug log. I tried with latest 4.4.9 kernel and same problem.

1 hour and I will update with full (really full) debug log again.

Thanks.

Fixed!

The full log give me the trick: I have the same problem with my Shield TV. I have xupnpd in my Synology NAS and for some reason:

- In Ubuntu: the CPU at hour, goes crazy and increment the usage a bit (30-35-40-50-100, etc.)
- In the Shield TV: TOTALLY hang Kodi after 45 min -1 hour.

Full log (I can't upload to pastebin, "too large"): https://mega.nz/#!fNw1WQgL!361VaDyKPUl_Q...1jXo0CA7Do

I reported the shield bug (in the official post) but nobody helps me. The fix: stop xupnpd and INSTANLY the CPU drops from (at this point) 175% -total- to the normal first hour: 28-30%.

Pics:

Kodi started, all is working nicely:

Normal CPU usage while playing:

After 1 hour (+-10 min) something go wrong and CPU usage it's increased:

I stopped here, but I know that finally Kodi hang the system. I stopped xupnpd and instantanly Kodi works nicely again and CPU drops from 121% to 21%:

Exactly the same "bug" appears in my Shield TV and I reported:

Finally someone told me that maybe the problem is xupnd, that for some reason doesn't work correctly with kodi:
