i am experiencing a rather odd problem which i have searched for already.
when i play sound through surround sound it works fine, when speech is played it flawless.
the issuse now comes when as in most movies there is background music and speach. here is where it gets interesting because the speach plays fine but the background music flicker amd jumps from speaker to speaker. when the speech stops the background music goes back to normal

If you have an /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc file, post it.

Run speaker-test with the number of channels you plan on using:

# assuming HDMI
# 2 channel
speaker-test -D plug:hdmi

# 6 channel
speaker-test -D plug:hdmi -c6

You may have to change "plug:hdmi" to the full line from "aplay -L" if you have more than one HDMI device listed, or if you use optical or other output.
