3.5" HDD in optical 5.25 inch external, possible?

I am building my first HTPC to reuse my 2TB 3.5" HDD. Since I don't need an optical drive, is there a way that I can put my 3.5" HDD into the optical drive bay?
I probably will get a small SSD to boot the OS.

Will this case work?

The externally accessible bay on that case is for a slim (notebook) optical drive, so it won't accommodate a 3.5" HDD. This case is quite popular here, so maybe one of the owners can chime in if they know of a way to somehow jerry-rig a mount for a full-size drive. Even if it could fit, there might be issues with clearance of motherboard components, airflow and heat.
