Hi,

I have all movie files on a harddrive tower (4x 3TB). The tower is connected
via USB 2.0 with my HTPC.
In order to view movies on other hardware devices in my network, I have
to use software in order on-the-fly-converting/streaming, where the
movies are downcalculated to reduce the volume of data and prevent
buffering.

For Ipad/Iphone I use already the software Stream-to-me in combination Serve-to-me...
but, its only useable for Ipad/Iphone...

What reommandations do you have for PC, Notebook or Ipad/Iphone?
Note: it should be a on-the-fly-solution

take a look at plex. You install plex server and then you can have several clients. Its does on the fly transcoding aswell. You can also share your library with others thru the myplex function which is pretty cool. The plex server is free but the client app costs money but worth it. I can watch movies/tv shows on the go from my library and my families.

nearlly 40% and maybe in the future 60-70% of my movies are in HD.
A amount of data is therefore too high for streaming; 20-30mbit/s
in average.
I don't need on other devices (beside my homecinema equipment)
HD picture and sound quality.
Also I don't want hold two movie databases...one uncompressed material
for homecinema and one compressed material for streaming in my
network.
