Can I turn off scraping?
#1
I've looked around in the settings and I'm not sure how to achieve (if possible) what I'd like to do.

First off, my setup:
several clients around the house connected via ethernet.
all clients connected to my media server's sql db.
media server in a seperate room hosts all my content.

I use media companion to generate nfos for all my tv shows and movies.
When XBMC updates, it does first search for the nfo, which is fine...
My problem is that if it find a movie or tv show without it's nfo (if i haven't got around to it), then xbmc decides to scrape it from the internet.

How can I disable xbmc's scraper? And still keep it updating / looking for nfo files.

Maybe there is an easy solution that I've overlooked...
In any case, I'd really appreciate any help I can get on this.

You can't.
You just need to make sure there are nfo files

Is it possible to write a noop scraper addon? That may be the way to go.

This comes up pretty frequently and I know you can't but is there a lot of work in making it possible?

What you cal frequently is perhaps 10 users on the total amount of XBMC users Wink

Don't know if this is a lot of work but there is a GSoC project that will change scraping so i doubt anything will be changed before that

Hi there.

Thanks to all for the replies, I appreciate the time taken.

I do think it's a shame there isn't a feature for this - but I'll just have to deal with it Smile

Might try blocking xbmc in the firewall.. shouldn't be able to scrape from internet then.

Maybe I am missing something.
All but one of my HTPCs have no video sources defined. So there is nothing to scrape. When I want to update, I do it from my main desktop PC and the movie info gets written into mysql.

hi sub,
You're absolutely right, and I did actually think of doing it that way, but I didn't want to limit the updates to just one PC. I still want any and all machines to be able to update the library, just not scrape the info itself.
hope that clears it up a bit.
My media center:
12TB Homebuilt Raid5 Server | Motorola Nyxboard Hybrid | Bose V3 lifestyle | Samsung S7 55" Slim LED TV

4 PC clients w/ xbmc (windows) - 1 w/ live

Build a dummy nfo file for all the movies you haven't scraped yet Huh?
Using the name of the file as title and the rest blank ..... Huh?
Not sure if that works for you ......

Now it's no problem, all you have to do is set your sources to "Local Information Only". I don't remember for sure when that was added, maybe version 14?
