How should XBMC handle movie box sets?
#1
Hello

I have a newbie question about movie box sets. Currently in My Movies for Windows Media Center I have one title for Blade Runner. When I go in to this title and click on play I am then presented with a disc menu and I can choose which version of the film I would like to watch.

When I added some of my movies in to the XBMC Library I ended up with multiple titles for Blade Runner. I am using XBMC Eden 11 for Windows with the default skin.

Try enabling "group movies into sets"
This can be found in XBMC settings -> video library (if i'm not mistaken)

Hi thanks for the reply.

I just enabled that options in the settings, I then tried updating the library which didn't seem to change anything. I then removed each of the Blade Runner titles from the library and updated the library again, its just added them back in as individual titles again and not grouped them together.

Maybe the current folder structure for this boxset on the server is not right for XBMC ?

Since you are using NFO files you should add this some lines to let them group into sets

Yes I am using NFO files generated by My Movies. I have also installed the My Movies XBMC scrapper add-in.

I will have a read of your link and see if I can figure it out.

Cheers.

Its sounds like the problem might be because I am not using The MovieDB scraper and I am using the My Movies.DK scraper.

"XBMC version 11, Eden, gives the user the ability to organize movies into sets in a much simpler manner than previously. In order to take advantage of this feature, you must use The MovieDB as your movie content scraper. If you need to change or add a media source, follow these steps first. To enable organizing movies in sets, access the Video Settings. On the Library tab, scroll down and select Group movies in sets. Navigate back to your Movies and remove all movies that you wish to be grouped in to sets (context menu > Remove from library). Once all movies have been removed, open the context menu and select Update library. Once the content has been rescanned it will grouped into collections."

Will have a look at manually editing the NFO files, I will also contact Brian at My Movies to see if something could be changed at their end?

OK I think that has worked now, I manually edited each NFO file for the different movie files in the set. I added the line:

createdby>My Movies</createdby>
<title>Blade Runner</title>
<originaltitle>Blade Runner</originaltitle>
<sorttitle>Blade Runner</sorttitle>
<set>Blade Runner (Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition)</set>
<rating>8</rating>
<year>1982</year>

</top250>

Note the above is just an extract and not the full contents of the NFO file.

Ignore the Blue cover for Blade Runner that is a separate Blu-ray title, its the dark coloured title I am interested in, which is high-lighted

So if there isn't a mechanism in place already? I think the My Movies.DK system needs to add in the <set></set> line in to the NFO file when it creates the NFO files.

Thanks.

I've mentioned this issue on the My Movies forums here

On this view I seem to have an issue with some missing data

That info can't be stored in XBMC database (yet)
Currently movie sets are limited to grouping movies, setting a poster and fanart.
Hopefully additional features will be added in future versions

I've just noticed something, that Blade Runner boxset was file based i.e. MKV / AVI.

I've just added my DVD rip folder as a new source in to XBMC, these are full VIDEO_TS DVD rips.

And for Back To The Future Trilogy in XBMC its already grouped together as a set without me doing anything.

I've looked at an NFO file for one of the Back to the Future films and the <set> tag is not present in the NFO file.

I am using the My Movies.DK scraper for this DVD folder source and not the default The MovieDB scraper, so not sure how it knew to group them in to a set?

Here's the NFO file:

Doh, sorry scrap that, I was looking in the file view and not the movie library view.

If I go in to the Movie Library view instead it has not grouped them in to a set.
