XBMCubuntu running on a VM
#1
Hi All

I have recently brought a new TV, and I am transferring the old one into the bedroom.

With that in mind I am looking at running my HTPC like a server, with a VM so I can run two instances of XBMC (one for each TV).

So does anyone here have any experience with running the OS version of XBMC as a guest OS in a VM?

Were there any issues etc?

Thanks in advance.

One problem you'll run into, depending on the Hypervisor you use for your VMs, is that your VMs will not have sufficient video graphics performance... You are probably better off looking at running multiple XBMC clients connecting to a MySQL DB & NAS thus providing central management/access of your content. ie. ATV2s are a great cheap platform. Depending on your requirements/budget you could go for a main HTPC and an ATV2 or just two ATV2s. For example, in my Home Theatre I run a HTPC and ATV2s on my other two TVs and everything works seamlessly.
