is it possible to send commands to a pc from xbmc? for instance, can i send a command to launch the xlink kai engine on my pc? or perhaps send a command to close a program that is running on my pc?

it's possible via a python script. of course, you'd need some custom server listening on your pc that accepts these commands.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.
