Im not sure if this is an XBMC specific issue or not, but I do know that before Eden, XBMC had no problem playing these files correctly. I cannot get my files to play in 5.1 in any other program either, like VLC or Foobar. I have zero problems with videos playing in 5.1, only FLAC.
For what its worth, II have gone into my sound card properties, and done a DTS and Dolby "test" through windows, and the receiver switches over to both just fine. I would think im missing something simple, but I cant figure it out. I have everything configured in XBMC that I know of, to correctly play 5.1 (system>audio output>5.1 optical enabled, dts and dolby capable receiver is checked)
Im using SPDIF.
Thank you for any help.

I figured it out, completely on accident. I have about 6-8 different options for my audio device, not sure why. I changed it to one that said "speakers" instead of "direct sound", and it works now on XBMC.

I cannot get 5.1 FLAC to work for the life of me: Running Win7 x64 - XBMC 12 Frodo Alpha 2 - HDMI Audio (Intel HD2000 on i5-2320 processor). Yamaha RX-A3000 Receiver connected to Samsung TV via HDMI
XBMC Log: http://pastebin.com/JQzaPthZ Windows Supported Formats: Channels 8 - Bit Depths: 16 20 24-bit Sample Rates 32.0, 44.1, 48.0, 88.2, 96.0, 176.4, 192.0 KHz Encoded Formats: DTS Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital 100% Volume - Allow applications to take exclusive control & Give exclusive mode enabled I can connect to XBMC via the receiver and play DTS FLAC over the network with no issues. Yamaha's interface is pathetic! When playing within XBMC I get static whether using WASAPI or DirectSound. I went so far as disconnecting the HDMI between receiver/monitor and using analogue VGA for monitor and still pass sound over HDMI. Windows & XBMC then reported RX-A3000 vs Samsung as the WASAPI/DirectSound device but still got static with FLAC DTS After reconnecting HDMI back to Samsung monitor Windows reports Samsung again and XBMC had additional WASAPI/DirectSound choices - Samsung and a string of numbers (like a device ID that isn't enumerated). All choices still result in FLAC DTS playing static. Well that's probably more info than needed or confusing but I'm just at my wits end in getting this to work. Everything else works great: Movies DTS/AC3 are not a problem. BluRay ISOs no-problems.

Just registered to post my findings. It's related to the newest version of VLC I'm afraid.
Not sure where to post this, it's a pretty big deal. I rolled back to 2.0.0 and FLAC surround files are playing just fine. The surround bug seems to be isolated to FLAC encoding as well because AC3 tested just find on the latest (2.0.3) build |
