Built-In Tuners and Recording
#1
Hello Forums,

I'm looking at a TV with a Built-In digital tuner. I'm from Canada, where we have nearly 80% Encrypted QAM.

I'm just wondering if "Built-In Digital Tuners" in a TV can be used with my HTPC running XBMC to record shows to HardDrive, or if I have to have an external Tuner to do that?

The TV in question is NEW LG 42LV4400 LED

Thanks.

From the specs I didn't see an HDMI output, so I think you're out of luck using the TV's internal digital tuner. If you're local to digital OTA then a standard digital tuner card in your PC would be able to stream these shows along, and software depending; give you PVR capabilities... I'm using one of the Hauppauge cards ($30) and it handles both cable and OTA HD and XBMC plays the .TS files directly. http://www.hauppauge.com/

Being in Canada isn't a big limitation (in fact some people are envious) check out these plugins 'Canada on Demand' I'm watching the National nightly... Live Streams and of course Navi-X
