HDMI vs Analog Settings??
#1
Hi Guys,

Hoping for some clarification on HDMI vs Analog in the XBMC settings...

My setup is HTPC >> HDMI >> HDTV

That said, I typically get best results when I put my audio settings to Analog.

Could someone please explain the difference between HDMI and Analog, when using an HDMI cable as the connection?

Thanks so much!

(I've searched pretty hard, but have yet to find a guide or explanation for the numerous different audio options -- HDMI alsa etc)

Just to clarify...

You get better sound quality when you have your settings to analog while you only have a digital connection (hdmi) to your tv?

...or do you mean that some audio formats don't work with HDMI? Because that would be the case if you've set XBMC to passthrough DTS and DD to the TV, since most TV's can't decode those formats.

Ah OK,

So I've disabled those settings and switched to HDMI (default).

I have sound...

Will using HDMI instead of Analog provide better sound, even though the audio is still passing over the same cables, and being played back by the same hardware?

And yes, MassIV, I was using Analog in XBMC, when only using HDMI cables.

I do NOT use Analog cables (red/white)
