AppleTV 2 (black) MySQL Causes Crash

Steps taken to reproduce

created advancedsettings.xml as per http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4285

rebooted
debug log as per http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=4284

I have tested mysql connectivity from another machine (just with the mysql client) and can connect to the database server with no errors.

MySQL Version is 5.5.25 running on Windows

same advancedsettings.xml on Ubuntu 12.04 with xbmc installed from Ubuntu repo does not crash

I removed all sources and cleaned libraries before creating the advancedsettings.xml

as the folders in the share\userdata\thumbnails\video are being created on the same server I'm fairly sure that it isn't a name resolution issue.

I have also tried with IP addresses instead with no success :-(

I'm beginning to wonder if I have other problems as well. I can play 1080p mkv files quite happily, but am seeing very frequent buffering when playing VIDEO_TS rips of DVDs.

I've checked the network switch post is not a problem by connecting my "crappy" (AMD Fusion) laptop to the same port and that is able to play the same VIDEO_TS rips quite happily, I then setup two machines playing different 1080p mkv files the laptop and my ATV1 playing VIDEO_TS rips and experienced no "buffering" on any clients, so it does rather point the finger at the ATV2 having a problem :-(

this is on IOS 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 depending on what part it looks at, not IOS 5

or am I missing something ?

deintelacing turned off and I'm still getting pauses and buffering :-(
