Also, when adding such media, can I create my own folders on the drive and where should they be created without affecting crystalbuntu's operation?
Thanks

Would like to add some media to the internal drive for playback of stuff. How can I find out how much space I have free on the drive?

Use the file manager (under the System heading on the main menu). It will let you copy, tell you what space is left, etc.
IIRC, putting your media folder in /home/atv/ is a good spot. You can make easy links to the XBMC wiki using double brackets around words: [[debug log]] = debug log, [[Add-on:YouTube]] = Add-on:YouTube, [[Adding videos to the library]] = Adding videos to the library, [[userdata]] = userdata, etc |
