Incorrect Season poster in Low List view
#1
I think I've found a bug in the Low List view when I'm viewing TV Series episodes.

I'm using the Aeon Flux skin, latest version in Eden.

What is happening is that if I go to the unwatched episode list for any given series where I have more than 1 season for that series and only episodes from the most recent Season are unwatched, and I select an episode, then tap the right arrow on the keyboard to bring up detailed info for that episode, the Season poster image is for the wrong Season. It shows the poster for the earliest Season of that Series that is currently in the library.

The specifics of this are:

1. I have the settings set so that it flattens for only 1 season. ie. If the unwatched episodes for a given Series are all from the same Season and I'm filtering on Unwatched only, I DO NOT have to pick the Season first when I go into the episode list.

2. I have multiple Seasons for the same Series in every case where this is happening.

3. The poster I see in every case is the poster for the earliest Season of the given Series.

This appears to be happening for every Series where I have multiple Seasons.

I can confirm that the correct Season poster HAS been imported into the XBMC library / cache and if I navigate up a level to where you are at Season folder level and can choose a Season, you do in fact see the correct
Season poster image, so it's definitely there in the database / cache and it's definitely associated with the right Season at some level and it is being imported from my folders correctly when they are scanned.

Can anyone confirm this behaviour ? Or does anyone have suggestions for a workaround ?

Aeon Nox, yes. Sorry. God I was tired.

I'll try for a screenshot but it's running on a dedicated Linux box on my home theater system so I need to just figure that one out and WinSCP that image back across to this Windows box.

It's the latest version officially available through the standard updates, so the most recent stable build that came in via XBMC itself.

Just noticed a small error in previous post too in point 1. Edited and added the "DO NOT". Sorry about that.

you can press "print" on your keyboard and it will take a screenshot (xbmc feature). you can also use samba to transfer the images, every xbmc dist i know of has got a samba sever implemented.

Screenshots as requested.

2 Examples showing incorrect Season poster in details and the correct Season poster for the same Season in the top level Season select area.

do you have a poster.jpg in the folder of the episode or one level above?
setting "use poster.jpg" in viewtype settings activated?

Not in the folder with the episode but in the folder one level above, yes.

But that poster.jpg is not a Season image, it is a general Series image that does not refer to any Season.

The Season poster images are in my top level Series folders named as "Season01.tbn", "Season02.tbn" etc. As you can see, they are being imported correctly because you can see them at Series folder level properly.

eg: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9123294/screenshot005.jpg

I cannot see the "use poster.jpg" in the View Settings for the Low List view and I looked in the main XBMC settings quickly and can't see anything there offhand.

I know that in other Views there is a "use poster.jpg" and "use banner.jpg" setting, so I think know which setting you mean, but it doesn't seem to apply for Low List ?

Just checked it and I see those settings for the BannerPlex View, but they aren't available in Low List view mode.

Ok, thanks for trying.

I'm wondering if it might not be related to adding a Season poster after the fact.

In other words. I had one Season with a poster, then I added a 2nd Season without a poster. Then later, after the 2nd Season was already in the library, I added a poster for the 2nd Season.

My thinking is that if there is anything in the database that associates an episode with a particular Season poster, it isn't getting updated if you introduce a Season poster later on.

And, if similarly, if you don't have a Season poster for the episodes you are scanning into the library, maybe it does the best it can and associates them with closest Season poster it can find at that point ?

I'm going to check the database structure and see what's mapped to what in my DB.

another thing you should try out would be to test if that also happens in other skins. would help to narrow down the problem.

Ok, confirmed. It's also happening in the Metropolis skin, so this is NOT skin specific.

I tried various skins but Metropolis is the only one that offers views that are similar enough to Nox to compare properly. The others don't give you a Season poster in the same functional area.

I've narrowed it down to a very specific combination of things:

1. More than one Season of the same Series in the library.

2. You are working with an episode from a more recent Season than the earliest Season in the library.

3. You MUST have the filter set to "Unwatched".

4. You MUST have the "Flatten setting" turned on for a single Season so that when you navigate to the Episode list from the main Series view, you don't first get to pick a Season folder, you go straight to the list of unwatched episodes.

And that's about it.

I did also inspect the databases thoroughly last night and run several queries on various things but nothing in there looked helpful. The textures database doesn't seem to contain any reference to any ".tbn" files or Season posters at all and
in the Videos database the only artwork that is ever mapped to anything is the thumbnails, by the looks of it.

I don't have time right now to clear my userdata etc. but I might give that a go on the weekend when I've got a gap. To be honest though, I suspect that it won't resolve this because this looks to me like a consistent issue under the specific conditions I've described above, and being a programmer myself I can picture in my head how the code is probably handling the situation and where it's probably going wrong.

I did pull down the Aeon Nox source last night via GitHub and I took a look at the Views etc., but I actually think the problem is in the underlying XBMC source code, so I might pull that and have look in there too this weekend.

Thanks for all your help and advice so far Phil65.
