I would also like this, though I thought this has already come up before but I could be wrong. I have the same wants as everyone above. 3d/2d, hd/sd, theatrical cut/extended cut, etc

This would be a fantastic feature for certain TV shows as well. Star Trek the Original Series comes to mind, as it was recently remastered in HD with CGI special effects.. though for completeness' sake I would like to have the original versions available for viewing as well.

This feature has been long overdue. Even iTunes clubs SD & HD files together for a given movie.

I would love to see this as well... I watch movies on my laptop every now and then. When I am at home, I play them from my server. When I am on the road or at work, I play them from an addon. The only problem is that this causes the movies to appear twice in my library. If i could click on the movie and have a popup to choose the source, that would be perfect. I knew that I had seen it before... I guess it was when I was Plexin' it.
