Stream Android Screen

Has someone tried to stream the Android Screen to XBMC, not like the "send to" option with UPNP?
I mean something like http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/ but via wifi.
I think it would be great to show in the TV what you are doing in the tablet, like web browsing, show presentations or anything you can do in your android device.

Basically Apple's display mirroring feature for Android.

Someone else is working on that feature but until this feature is part of Android itself or can be used without needing a custom ROM & has no restrictions I don't think anyone would implement it. That method is also reliant on a H.264 hardware encoder being present on the chipset Android is running on so not all devices would be able to use it.

Yes, something like Apple's mirroring would be perfect.

I've tried serving VNC from my android with http://freemymind.cc.cc/2012/05/android-...r-app.html it's quite "laggy" but useful, I wonder if there is any vnc client add-on for xbmc.

For Tegra based devices this could be a possible solution: http://blogs.nvidia.com/2012/07/tegra-en...-on-hdtvs/

EDIT: sorry, that obvousliy needs a direct connection ... not as easy as i thought...

It looks as though Android 4.2 (and presumably later versions) will support Miracast.

Miracast looks really cool, having support for it in XBMC would be great Smile

That is an app to manage you droid from a PC, not at all what this is about. We basically want an airplay alternative. There are airplay apps for Android, but either not as user friendly as AirPlay or payware.

What I do like to know is if there currently is a way with UPNP option to have a "Send To" from Android to XBMC for audio only. And transparant, it should work transparant for all apps (ie spotify). A bit like having a bluetooth connection with you're amplifier, but then using (wireless) network

Yes, you can already use DLNA & UPnP. It will not work with any app, not Spotify for example.

You can use BubbleUPnP to play media with your android device as media source and XBMC as the display. Or the other way around..

The implementation of Miracast would be fantastic. And it has been confirmed from a whole range of sources that it will be officially supported in Android 4.2 and onwards. (http://androidandme.com/2012/10/news/and...s-display/). Since AirPlay is implemented already, it's only natural that the "rest of the tech world"-equivalent is supported!

Also, since Miracast is backed by Google, Intel, the WiFi Alliance, this feature will certainly be implemented by OEMs soon. And wether or not it is implemented in XBMC it will certainly be implemented in other media centre solutions.

I just ordered the Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 from Amazon for $59. I am expecting my Galaxy Nexus to get Android 4.2 which will have built in support for Miracast next week. If all goes well, I will be shit canning my HTPC!!!!

Now, if I could just figure out how to get cyrillic subtitles to work for my Russian mother in-law on Android XBMC.

based on this pdf https://www.wi-fi.org/sites/default/file...120919.pdf

it looks like miracast is just a remix of various established technologies.
Actual video streaming is just mpeg2-ts over rtsp, but there's a separate discovery and control protocol that is active during playback. DRM is optional. I don't see why xbmc on android shouldn't be able to push video to your miracast tv.
There may be issues with proprietary DRM supporting devices pushing DRM protected contents to the xbmc htpc. Who knows how that would work.

I have no clue if more than one stream is supported (render and stream subtitles on top of non-recompressed contents).

I had heard of BubbleUpnP before to be used as a streaming service over the net and never got around to trying it (mainly bc I use subsonic)

I just installed it and tried it out, it works very well actually! Thanks!
