Video Playback Distortion

I just added a show to my collection but the videos look like this on xbmc:

I have never had video playback problems before even with 1080p movies. The videos work perfectly fine on the latest version of vlc on that same machine. I tested the videos on a different computer running xbmc and the videos play fine there.

I may have gone a bit overboard on reinstalling xbmc and the graphics card but nothing I do seems to work, I even changed some settings around on xbmc and still nothing.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.60 GHz
2 GB Memory
Windows 7 32bit

Any idea? Thanks

Switch off the DXVA, go with software rendering. It almost looks like a 10bit depth video (nighties support that) and some very old mpegs can look like this... Using the keyboard "O' key while playing a video might give a clue were any shortfalls are.... look for lost frames, CPU or GPU overstressed etc.

It is 10bit from the MediaInfo stuff.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

Just had no idea what 10bit was and I still don't but it works now, so thanks. Laugh

One last thing, nightlies update on their own right?

No XBMC install updates on its own. You add-ons can be auto updated, but the XBMC core does not.

10 bit refers to the color range.

I realize this is a somewhat old topic, but it was directly related:

The INTEL NUC (1st generation Celeron) is a rebranded Intel Atom processor, and as such, cannot display the 10bit MP4 files properly either (same distortion). Upon changing the settings to "hardware acceleration off", everything works. Still plays 1080p smoothly (because it's not the same "atom" we all know and hate.).

Anyway, just thought I'd chime in my knowledge on the matter. I have a Jan 2014 NUC as well (Celeron) that I haven't tested 10bit MP4 files on, but have yet to run into an issue with Hardware Acceleration turned on.
