Linux - ubuntu 12 + xbmc = slow

i can't believe how slow ubuntu 12 is? i dont have a super powered machine but i have a dual core cpu with 4 gigs of ram and the os is so slow. using xbmcuntu was so much faster but was getting non stop crashes so had to use ubuntu with xbmc on top. anything to speed ubuntu up?

When I used Ubuntu 12 and XBMC on my Intel ATOM machine, it was snappy as heck.

There's a good chance that when something is horribly wrong, that's probably not normal.

You can make easy links to the XBMC wiki using double brackets around common XBMC words: [[debug log]] = debug log, [[Video library]] = Video library, [[SMB]] = SMB , [[userdata]] = userdata, etc

I googled for 64-bit XBMCbuntu and found this: The system is XBMCbuntu EDEN (3.0.0-16-generic) 32-bit (there is no 64-bit build for XBMCbuntu)
