Have you got a DVD in the drive or a virtual DVD mounted using Daemon Tools or any similar software? If so remove/unmount the drive and see if that makes any difference.

Thank you for reply, jhsrennie.
But there's no DVD in physical or virtual drive. |

There's a version of XBMC.exe with enhanced logging at http://swarchive.ratsauce.co.uk/xbmc/hanginwindows/. Copy this over the existing XBMC.exe, run XBMC and post the log file. I've added lots of extra debug logging to try and trace exactly where the hang is occurring.

XBMC is hanging trying to check the status of your DVD drive D:
I asked about virtual CDs because I've seen reports that a virtual drive can cause this hang. I've also seen a report that a driver problem can also cause the hang. I can't find the thread now, but I think it was solved by deleting the DVD drive in Device Manager then rebooting and allowing Windows to redetect the DVD. I think Device Manager was showing the drive with a yellow exclamation mark indicating there was a problem with it. |

I was having a similar problem on my Toshiba laptop. I disabled the "optical drive auto lock" in the task tray and the problem went away. Also try it with a cd of some kind in the drive.
