XIOS PIVOS vs ATV2
#1
Can anyone tell me how the two devices compare with respect to performance and file playback compatibility?

I'm curious if the XIOS is faster and can run well even if skinned. Also, does the PIVOS support USB host so that I can attach a HDD? Seems like the XIOS is going to be super hot especially with atv2's being hard to come by.

The Pivos/XIOS box smokes the ATV2. More hw decode formats, three USB real ports vs none. It was designed and aimed at being what the ATV2 'should' have been.

Davilla: how does the interface speed compare to the ATV2? Can the XIOS handle heavier skins than the ATV2?

What is the max bitrate it can handle till it becomes a stutterfest? Smile

I guess, there won't be any problem, running XBMC on that thing:

I've been looking for a UK seller as well ,the sum vision cyclone slim plus looks suspiciously similar, 800mhz Arm A9 with Mali gpu, doesn't say what the SoC is though so can't be sure.

Thanks Davilla, it sounds like this is the htpc box I have been waiting for. I've read that utorrent for android is coming and would love to make this my torrent/xbmc box. I wonder if it would be able to handle those two tasks simultaneously. That way I could shut down my pc for once. :-)

Full blown decypted bluray is the target. Anything else is out of spec encoding and hardware decoders don't like out of spec encoding. So if you want this to handle 'killa' or 10bit, look to desktop with lots of ponies.

Fair enough. How much will the 512 hold it back compared to 1024? (since many non brand pop up offering similar configs)

I hope this was a reply to the AirPlay question. That'd be the only thing left that it needs to do in order to replace the atv.

I'm pretty much sure this is the manufacturer:

Some videos from CES, ICS update for box and a factory tour

And they use Amlogic SoC: http://www.amlogic.com/product01.htm
Video of interview at Amlogic HQ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaQo9cL8pk4

Pivos rebadged model in the USA: http://www.pivosgroup.com/#!vstc0=xios
And Sumvision rebadged model in the UK: http://www.sum-vision.co.uk/productinfo/nano/nano.asp

In the UK best price for the Nano 1 slim+ is ebuyer: http://www.ebuyer.com/388070-sumvision-c...nenanoslim- £77.99 delivered

Other stockists as well - I've bought a Nano 1 Slim+ from 7dayshop on the basis of my research above (bought before I found it at ebuyer cheaper):
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_...j1fbhc1mh1

They also stock the oldest Nano 1 and the Nano 1 Slim:
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_...j1fbhc1mh1
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_...j1fbhc1mh1

What is the difference between Nano 1, Nano 1 Slim and Nano 1 Slim+?

Nano 1 is slightly larger than Nano 1 Slim.
Nano 1 has only 2 usb ports, supports SD card and has RJ45 port.
Nano 1 Slim had 4 USB ports, supports Micro SD and has no Rj45 port, plus some features like wifi hotpspot and remote control Android phone does not work now (will be supported at a later date)

Nano 1 Slim+ is slimline design (simlar size to slim) but has Rj45 and 3 USB ports

So my logic is the Nano 1 Slim+ is the best box :-)

The Nano 1 also seems to be available in Germany through: https://www.virtualsat.eu/index.php/prod...ox110.html

Hope this helps - remember this is early days for XBMC on Android and the boxes above may not turn out to be a wise investment - but if your aim is to play and hack around then go ahead and buy :-D

Also remember if your buying in the UK then cashback available (topcashback and quidco) when buying through ebuyer and 7dayshop (approx 2%) to shave a little more off the price.
