When the new season starts for a show, I usually don't have the latest season thumb. And it by default is replaced with the show thumb. The problem is, my show thumbs are banners (I am using Transparency) and when the banner is used as the show thumb it gets grossly stretched and looks ugly as hell.

Is there a way to refresh just the last season's thumb from tvdb? (Without manually downloading)

If I select the season and click on refresh, I get the question about ignoring local stuff. If I select no, then nothing changes. If I select yes, then it refreshes all the season thumbs, the banner and the fanart. Then I have to manually change all of them back. Is there a way that I might have missed? How do other people deal with this?

Thanks

Looks like a bug in master. What version are you running? See if you can reproduce with master as follows:

1. Add show folder with season1 thumbnail + tvshow nfo, along with a single episode (it can be a dummy file).
2. Scan.
3. Add season2 thumbnail and another episode for that season (again, it can be a dummy file).
4. Run update library and check that the season 2 thumb is not found.

Pretty sure it won't be, as the season thumbs are only searched for when adding a tvshow. If you can confirm, please open a ticket on trac with the above detail, and cc me and vdrfan.

Cheers
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. I am actually using Eden stable. I think you misunderstood my question. If I manually add a new season's thumbnail into the show folder and run the update, it will add the thumb. But I am interested in scraping the new season's thumb without re-scraping all the metadata for the show. I was wondering if that's currently possible in the new nightlies (or I guess the monthlies)

When I do a refresh on the season listing, I am presented with a question: "Ignore local content and refresh from the internet?"

The two options I am presented with are:
1) Ignore all local content and refresh everything from the internet
2) Refresh only from local content, do not refresh anything from the internet

I guess it would be nice to have a third option:
3) update from local content, and refresh whatever's missing from the internet

That way, my existing metadata would be unchanged, but I would get the latest season's thumb scraped from tvdb.

Or maybe there could even be an option in the "set season thumb" screen where it will ask you to search tvdb for new thumbs. You could even expand that for all sorts of metadata and give users the ability to update the "scraper results" for each picture because over time, more pictures are added and currently the only way to get the latest ones is to do a refresh of the entire show or movie metadata.

Another side effect of this was when I built my new htpc, I imported my library from nfo's and local metadata. So if I try to change any of the pictures or fanart, I don't get presented with any alternatives from tvdb, because the new htpc never scraped those movies and shows. The only option is the current picture, or I can add from file (manually). I have to refresh the whole show or movie listing to get more options. But if I only wanted to change one season thumb, a refresh ends up in changing all the metadata. For movies, refresh causes the "recently added" list to get messed up (as well as changing both the thumb and the fanart). So I have to rely on a third party media manager.

I guess this type of individual metadata updating could make people use the built-in scraper more than third party scrapers as it gives them more control.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

PS. Sorry this turned into more of a feature suggestion (because I am simply assuming that what I was asking for is not implemented yet)

That's not possible. If there is a link to thetvdb in the .nfo file then it will be used. If there's not it won't.
