I suggest a new toggle under appearance settings that will enable the use of poster.jpg and banner.jpg for thumbnail and banner views respectively.
It is now up to the skinner to add such an option in the skin, but in fact more and more people are using stuff like artwork downloader and almost every skin has both thumbnail and banner views for TV shows.
Currently XBMC itself is limited to only one cover type (depending on the TVDB scraper settings).
The result is (because not all skins offer this option to look for poster.jpg and banner.jpg) that switching views for TV shows (e.g. switch from banner to thumbnail view) forces the user to rescrape his TV library!?

Edit: but I think skinners should still adjust their skin to be aware of this setting, which is the same as them allowing it by themselves, but I might be wrong.

True but it can simplify it by just giving a cover view type in the skin and then XBMC knows which picture to use for that view.
