What is the Buddy List on profile page?

Hi all,

What is the Buddy List on profile page? Is it like follow list of twitter?
If I add a user to my Buddy List, myBB send any kind of notify to him or her?
And others can view my buddy list?
I am going to use the Buddy List as bookmark of users without a disturbance.
