Linux Can Nvidia GT640 Bitstream TrueHD & DTS-HD
#1
Does anyone know if the Nvidia GT 640 can bitstream TrueHD & DTS-HD?

I've tried searching on Google, but can't find a definative answer. I've seen mention of Nvidia Fermi cards working properly, so perhaps I go for a GT 630 instead?

I currently have an AMD A8-3870K system running XBMC on Windows 7, but would like to switch it back to Linux because the graphics were a lot better.

Cost isn't an issue, but I'll need a low profile graphics card

Thanks

Any of the newer card can. So yes....but I don't understand your comment about Linux having better graphics? Never heard that one before

Thanks Jester

I didn't think there would be much in it with the graphics between Windows and Linux.

With 1080 & 720 MKV vids Linux had slightly smoother playback, but there wasn't a huge difference between the two systems.
For all other video formats Windows drops quite a few frames once every minute.

I've tried allsorts of settings for driver and XBMC but nothing has made a difference

To confirm for anyone visiting this thread in future
Nvidia GT 640 did indeed bitstream TrueHD via HDMI.

Tested in Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha 2 with Linux Kernel 3.5 and Nvidia driver 302.17

Took all of a couple of minutes to get it going - it looked stunning and sounded great
