Is it possible to get the up/down/left/right buttons on an MCE remote to function like the up/down keys on a keyboard?

What I want to be able to do is press the down key on the remote and select the next item in a list (rather than just have the mouse pointer scroll down a random amount).

Hope this makes sense.

If you haven't done so already, try enabling the option "Remote control sends keyboard presses", located in: System > Settings > System > Input devices

Thanks for the reply. I have that enabled but the up/down/left/right keys on the remote still move the mouse pointer. (And if I disable the mouse option the remote doesn't work at all...)

Are you sure those keys on the remote are designed to be used as up/down/left/right rather than as mouse navigation keys? In other words, are those keys you are using part of a "mouse pad" for the remote and there may be a separate set of keys for up/down/left/right (perhaps embedded with the numeric keys)? Do you have a link to a picture of your particular remote?

This is the remote:

Yes, you're right the keys I'm referring to are part of the mouse pad.

I can page up/page down with the channel up/channel down keys but I can't find any key combination that will allow me to move up or down one place in a list.

If you know a remote that will do this I'd be grateful for a recommendation.

Is there a button to toggle the arrow keys from mouse to keyboard movements?
Try the Blue one.
