why is the smb share password in clear text in the .log file ??

it's not a big deal .. but I would prefer it to be hashed out in the log file Huh (please) Smile

Frodo probably doesn't do this - when you add a smb:// source it strips the authentication off, saving it in it's password cache. Only smb:// sources.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

The test was done with the nightly build of frodo from yesterday!
But the source was added years ago... Will try and add it again and see if that makes a difference Smile

If I understand correctly, when you add the source, don't fill in the password part, then the first time you connect it will have a window pop up asking for the password (should only do it the first time).

Why only for smb:// sources? Would it really be that different for other sources?

Because noone has bothered doing the same for anything else. Patches welcome for that - compare SMBDirectory.cpp and note where it says it requires authentication.
