The Restart XBMC button in the shutdown menu doesn't seem to do anything, whenever I press it it just brings me back to whatever screen I was on, no config files were reloaded either. If it would actually exit and relaunch XBMC, re-reading the config files in the process this would be extremely useful in cases where you edit XBMC specific files but don't want to reboot the computer. I'm currently running OpenELEC on my HTPC and it's a pain to have to reboot the computer each time I want to test something, it'd be so much easier to just re-launch the program like I expected it to.

Here's the debug output from when the button is pressed:

Code:

I'm running Eden on Ubuntu 12.04 and I don't have a "Restart XBMC" choice in the system menu. I wish I did...It would come in handy alot of times.

You may have to enable it under Settings > Skin Settings > Shutdown

Edit: I just saw a thread from 2009 where a dev said that the code was never in place outside of the original Xbox, then I saw a thread from 2011 where the devs were debating it's usefulness. I just submitted a bug report citing where it would be extremely useful in the case that you use xbmc-standalone. I use OpenELEC and it's a pain in the ass to have to reboot the system every time to see if a change to a config file worked.

In the case of OpenElec you can just exit xbmc and it will immediately restart.

Haha yea I just noticed that a few days ago :-)

According to the ticket I submitted when I created this thread, it has been fixed in Frodo.

In windows 7, restart xbmc will close it, but not launch it again

Frodo on windows 7 restart xbmc doesn't work for me either.

Is there anything that will work or restart the app, if it's not running, automatically?

(I should ask this somewhere else, sorry!)
