Windows Remove the shadow effect when paused.

When I pause a movie I notice that the top and bottom of the screen has a large shadow box behind it that fades toward the middle. This can be annoying when I pause a movie to look at something and it gets covered by the shadow. Is there a way to remove that shadow box, or make it transparent?
