Windows XBMC hangs at splash screen

I get the same in my zotac id34 4g win7.32bit.
I was advised in my post on it that a new optical drive fixed another users issues so I have one on order.
This may sound strange but I have been trying the latest nightlies and I saw more judder. ........went back to Eden and it improved.

Too bad, I can't change the optical drive on my laptop so easily. Either way looks like I'll have to give up on XBMC for now. Funny thing is like you said Eden started up 3/10 tries for me. The nightly builds don't startup at all.

I am having a similar problem with the optical drive. XBMC freezes for 3 minutes when an audio disc is in the drive.
Please help us out or give us a hint how to debug it.

I have a problem with XBMC hanging on startup at the splash screen.

So far the splash screen is as far as i can go and the only way out
is to turn my laptop off.

I added xdirect drivers from the microsoft site but no change in
behavior ( hangs at splash screen ) or log reporting.

I do have local shared drives to my other laptop... perhaps get
rid of these and retry ?

Only the Shadow knows
