Core i3-3225 ivy or AMD A6-3500?
#1
Does anyone have an opinion about choosing one of these two CPU's for a HTPC I am planning to build. Was planning on going the a6 way but I saw Core i3-3225 and the specs look okay for what I want to do with my HTPC.

What is it you want to do with your HTPC?

I haven't been able to find the i3-3225 for sale anywhere. Meanwhile, i3-21x5 makes for a very nice HTPC with support for 3D. A6-3500 does too.

The i3 is an Ivy bridge CPU and not on sale yet, it will cost more than the A6-3500 but from a CPU perspective will be far more powerful and will have a gpu on a par with the A6.

Think of the A6 as at the budget end for an htpc and the i3 as being at the top end.

If you are okay with price, Intel i3-3225 is a lot better CPU. You'll have the latest technolog in i3-3225, and it is more than okay for HTPC......it'll be released in Q3.....

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

For what? 1080p? Gaming?

If the former the picture quality will be the exact same.

There is no need to compare it. If you are mainly use your HTPC for blu-ray 1080P video and bitstreaming HD audio, HD4000 should be all you needs.....

..... and here's me thinkin' that if you are mainly using your HTPC for blu-ray 1080P video and bitstreaming HD audio, HD4000 should be more expensive overkill than you need Wink Buy hey, that's not stopping me ordering one! Big Grin

Isn't there driver issues with XBMC and AMD processors though? especially when it comes to HD audio?

I was looking at going the A6 route however I was reading a lot of things saying that the A6 processors don't play nice with Linux and HD audio... (I am planning on building a xbmcbuntu machine)
