problem with settings
#1
Hi, well I was running into issues with space left on my 50 gb partition for the C: Drive. Looking through all my folders I found that the thumbnails folder was taking up over 13 gb. I knew that I couldn't be using that much space with current items and that it probably included many past items.

As a test, to see what would happen, I renamed the thumbnails folder to thumbnailz. I restarted xbmc to find that my entire skin had reset. It went back to confluence. So, I exited xbmc and renamed thumbnailz back to thumbnails, started up xbmc and switched back to my skin aeon mq3. I found that my skin was still completely reset. all my settings were gone within xbmc.
This issue is present in every single skin. I switched to aeon nox which I had tried as well and all of its settings were gone too,

Not only this. Every setting in xbmc reset. In order to get sound I had to configure my sound settings again.

Here's the odd part. When I navigate to my settings files for these skins, all of the modified data is intact. It's simply not loading the settings into xbmc which I don't understand at all. Here's an example. This is in my includes.xml within aeonmq3

<item id="71"><!-- Netflix -->
<label fallback="31021">$INFO[Skin.String(CustomFavourite1_Label)]</label>
<include>Favourite1Backdrop</include>
<thumb>E:\90s backdrops\1279-netflix-netflix-logo.png</thumb>
<onclick>System.ExecWait(E:\netflix.exe)</onclick>
<visible>SubString(Skin.String(DisableFavourite1),true)</visible>

This creates a Netflix home menu icon which opens up my script to open Media center's netflix
I have not edited this file nor any lines in it, but the skin refuses to show it on the menu nor any other custom menu's I made.

I don't understand why it wont read from the settings or why removing thumbnails would reset the skin.

I immediately backed up my userdata folder now just in case something gets overwritten.

I decided to run a log just in case something visible could be seen. Log below. Anyone have any insight?

http://pastebin.com/D6iDKf5G

this log consists of me starting up xbmc moving around left and right a few times and shutting down xbmc.

The log....it's not suppose to look like that....right?

Have I broken my installation? D=

I don't know much about the debug log nor how to identify what it means, but it looks bad to me.

After searching around a bit more, I found that my guisettings.xml got reset from my action. I guess I have to go back and fix all my settings.. :<

Let me pre-face this with the fact that I've exported all my fanart/posters/logos/etc into each of the media's folders and that the following should probably not be tried if you haven't done so. (IE export video library --> separate files --> yes ---> yes ---> yes)

Well, for anyone that ever has an issue like this (regarding large thumbnails directory), here's what you do.

Delete or rename textures.db from your database folder

Delete thumbnails folder from userdata folder

This causes xbmc to re-download your thumbnails data.

You could also use the add-on XBMCThumbCleaner
