I dont know much about any of these companies or the features I need to make sure to look for. Saw a good deal on an Iomega® StorCenter™ px4-300d

If someone wouldnt mind giving it a quick look over and letting me know what you think I would greatly appreciate it.

This device seems to be way too expensive at around $550 for the 4 Bay device.
And you'd still have to purchase and install the HDDs,...so then you'd be pushing close to $1,000 for this thing YIKES!!!

Also, from what I've heard,..this device is pretty restrictive on make/model/year built hard drives.

An alternative would be to build an unRaid server.
This would allow you to build with existing parts you might have on hand.
Plus, you could add disparate drives and add drives as your funds become available.
Check out my build thread below to see mine,...and check out Lime Technologies (they're the maker of unRaid)

If you really have your heart set on a prebuilt NAS,..I'd recommend the Synology DiskStation DS411 (Diskless) Network Attached Storage - Black instead.

+1 for everything Gort says.

Also look at QNAP NASs.

Most of all, always check the list of approved HDDs and make sure they are available and affordable.

Synology is pretty nice stuff. I have one of their smaller NAS.

It is available for around $360 is the reason I was looking into it. Think I will just go the route of using an old system for now and see how that goes. Thanks for the feedback.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811112265
$120

ASUS C60M1-I (6 x SATA3)

$25

FSP 80 PLUS Certified 300-Watt Micro ATX/SFX Power Supply FSP300-60GHS-R

Or, go ASUS P8H77-I (6 x SATA) and Celeron G530 for ~$340

Add either a Linux OS or pickup Windows Home Server 2011 for $49.99 (or wait for it to go on sale again for $30).
