Laptop not "viewed" by XMBC

Hi! i am new to this, so please help!
I just jailbroke my Apple TV and installed XBMC and Nito TV.
I save my movies on an external hard disk. When i tried to add the source (the external hard disk with all my movies) to the Video Section of XBMC, so i could make my movie library, XBMC did not "see" my laptop at all, and obviously not either the external hard disk. I went to "Video" > "Add Source" > "Browse", and unfortunately, even if some other sources appeared, my laptop was as if it was not connected to Apple Tv or XBMC at all.
By the way, i have already enabled the home sharing in Apple TV so this is not the issue. I am afraid the solution is simple but right now, i cant seem to get it.
Please help,
Thank you,

What OS does your laptop run? XBMC doesn't use iTunes Home Sharing. Some forum of network file sharing needs to be set up on your laptop to share those files to the ATV2.

hi Ned. My laptop runs the latest mountain lion osx 10.8.2.
By the way, i have also installed XBMC on my laptop (apart from the AppleTV), and on my laptop, it perfectly detects the all the files and the external disks and i can add video source etc. In the Apple TV i have the issue.
How would u propose i make this file sharing network?
thank you for effort to help!

I would use NFS Manager (wiki) to set up an NFS (wiki) share to XBMC.
