Guidance in regards to sleep and idle detection
#1
Hi
Have moved from a rock solid windows 7 mediacenter running mst tool.
To a wonderfull new world of xbmc.

But I have yet to find the proper power management solution.

I have one main htpc box, windows 7 hosting a xbmc sql and all movies/pictures/music
2 clients pulling movies from it, they are waking it up with a magic packet.

This works fine and all..

I have set xbmc to shut it self down after 15 min. of idle, and then relying on the windows power management scheme.

Which seems to work, after 30 min. of windows idle time, it sleeps (seems to pay attention to downloads and movie streaming to the other clients)

The only thing I have bugging me, is that if I hit the HTPC button on my harmony on the main box, when it is serving the clients.
I am presented with the windows desktop, as the 15 minutes of xbmc idle has passed, and therefore has been shut down.
I would like it to fire up, when hdmi is engaged.
Suppose I could create an autohotkey, that I could press and reopen xbmc.

But is there a better way to do this ?
How is xbmc handling the idle time ?, would it respect a download and movie serving in regards to setting it to sleep rather than exit.

Don´t know if I really have a problem at all, I just like things as automated as I can. With minimal user input.

How is your setup ? In regards to sleep and idle time ?

You can try my XBMCLauncher which will start xbmc when you resume pc from sleep. You could also start xbmc by using win+alt+enter.
