How do I replace PSU on Antec ISK110 Vesa with a PicoPSU?
#1
Hello,

I'm new to pico psus and could use some help. I am thinking of getting an Antec ISK110 Vesa case, but the included power supply is not powerful enough for what I am building. What is involved in replacing the PSU with a picopsu? Do I need to worry about the different types of connectors (4-pin din vs barrel?) I think a 120W PSU would be borderline ok, but would really like to use a 150W.

Thanks!

It'll probably be best if you post what all is in the pc.

Sure, I'm planning:

AMD A8 3870k
Asus F1A75-I Deluxe motherboard
Samsung low profile memory
Two 2.5" SSDs

Yikes, does the 150W PicoPSU have only a single SATA power connector? I'll have to get an extension cable and fit it in the harness on the psu. Luckily they are not expensive.

Gom, I'm not answering you on any of this because I'm not an expert. I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Y71...01_s01_i00 a has a sata and molex power plug. Then you will need either this
http://www.amazon.com/Connectland-CL-CAB...ex+to+sata
or this http://www.amazon.com/Molex-Power-Adapte...ex+to+sata

I would say go with the first so you'll have an extra.

Also, isnt there another AMD processor you can go with that doesnt use so much power and not lose performance?

Thanks for the reply, malibu327. Yes, It looks like I can either go with the extension cable and fit it in the harness, or I can get a molex to sata adapter like you mention..

Yes, there are some 65W processors that I could use, but I already have the A8 (given as a gift) and can't seem to sell it for a price that would cover the cost of buying the 65W part. I guess people are waiting for Trinity? My plan is to undervolt and possibly downclock the A8 to get it under control if needed. I have a discussion on that here.

I think the ISK110 fits my needs best (small, two 2.5" drives, no expansion slot, no optical drive, vesa mountable) except for the power requirements of the A8.

Second on my list is the Antec ISK 310-150. It also supports two 2.5 drives and includes a 150W power supply, but it has an expansion slot, an optical drive, is not vesa mountable, and is about 4 inches longer than the ISK110.

^This is my most recent build. The pico psu works great. GL with your build. Maybe someone will come along and answer your question you are needing. Also, when you are done get some pics on here. I'm still finishing some stuff on mine and I'll be posting.

Looking at the ISK110, it's not clear to me where you'd router the power plug for the picoPSU out of the case so you can plug the AC adapter into it.

It says it comes with a external power supply but I dont see where it is in its pictures. Maybe he could remove the factory one and put in the pico?
He could also go with the case I went with, but i'm not sure there is room for 2 ssd's in it. May could if my stock intel cooler wasnt so big. So you could check mine out and see if it would work for you gomiflo.

CpTHOOK did a build a while ago using this case and has a thread and slideshow.

Unfortunately I can't get a good look at the PSU on the ISK110 in those shots. It looks like it sits at the bottom of the case, but I can't tell if it is enclosed or if it's easy to remove the existing PSU (or at least to push out the adapter connection location so that I can fit the PicoPSU connector there). I'll have to keep looking for more information.

I found a couple of review sites that have pictures of the PSU:
Here
And here

It seems like it would be pretty easy to remove--just unscrew. Would the PicoPSU 150XT or 160XT just plug into the hole? The Mini-fit JR doesn't look like it would fit properly.
