They all have the "24p bug" and Intel gets as close as anyone else.

Unless you are gaming the igpu/apu is all the same for 1080p. And even if you are gaming you can't do it at max settings which is often not disclosed for some reason which is why I said a discrete card is much more capable.

which mobo../cpu would you recommend then?

Assassin?
Which mobo/cpu would u recommend then?

I have a whole site with recommendations.

Theres way to much info on that site Wink too many builds.. Wink could u narrow it down pls?
So instead of the amd a6 3670 black edition and the Asrock a75m mobo, what would u take

If you must have 3D capability then you will need either an Intel i3 21xx or the AMD A6-3500 CPU. If 3D is not required then an Intel G630 CPU is all you need (even the G530 is more powerful than the A6-3500). For the motherboard you will need either a B75 or H77 based board for Intel or a A75 based board for AMD. I would go for Asus, ASrock or Gigabyte boards if it was my choice.

The above assumes this is an HTPC for media playback only and not for video encoding or gaming.

David
HTPC1: Intel Pentium G620, 4GB RAM, AMD HD6570, Samsung 830 SSD, Silverstone GD05 case.
HTPC2: AMD Athlon II X2 255, 4GB RAM, AMD HD5450, Western Digital HDD, Silverstone ML03 case.
HTPC3: AMD E350, 4GB RAM, AMD HD6310, OCZ Agility 3 SSD, Akasa Crypto case.
Media Server: i3-3220, 8gb RAM, WHS 2011, 8tb capacity, Fractal Design ARC Midi R2 case.

I almost never make blanket recommendations about which motherboard/cpu/etc is "best" as what may work best for me may not necessarily work best for you given your needs.

Send me a PM and we can have a discussion about what you are wanting to do (and not do) with your HTPC and I can make a few recommendations there.

I have listed my general favorite boards at my blog. Sorry if there is way too much information --- I like variety and detail.

I just saw that the cheapest i3 2100 is already 116,5 euro
Thats already more money than the amd a6.....

How can an intel be cheaper then?

Because you can get a G540 for $40 shipped that is a stronger CPU than the A6 and then add a discrete card (if you want as its not absolutely needed depending on what you want to do) and still come out less than the A6 with a stronger CPU and GPU with more flexibility, etc.

Intel G620 + Nvidia GT430 can be had for as low as ~$60 on Newegg if you are willing to go with openbox/refurbished

If i should set this all up, i probably would need a bigger PSU too than the one i have now (300W) + no openbox/refurbished stuff for me too Smile

No worries...and I see you probably cant use newegg, but this gives you an idea of what you can get for the money

Intel G620 - $64
MSI N430GT Nvidia card - $56.99 (but $26.99 with mail in rebate)
PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III 400W Modular 80PLUS Bronze Power Supply - $69 (but $49 after mail in rebate)
ASRock H61M/U3S3 Motherboard - $67

Total cost $207-257 depending on whether you get the MIR's back Smile

A 300 watt PSU should be plenty.

Do you want a miniITX or microATX build? It depends on the size case you have whether a discrete gpu will fit.

Micro ATX , case will be : MS-Tech MC-380 (that is if the remote will work)

Swap the psu's around and look at either a AMD HD6450 or AMD HD6570 gpu.

But lower powered, less heat and quieter.

David

PS Don't forget to add an aftermarket CPU cooler to the AMD build as the standard cooler is loud, the standard Intel cooler is quiet enough for most people.

What ever way you mix it the fact is that you can build an Intel based HTPC that is at least as capable, in fact more so, as an AMD based HTPC for less money. However that's not to say that AMD doesn't make a great option for an HTPC, at the end of the day the choice is yours and what you are happy with.
