After lurking in the forums for a while, i finally decided to try my first build. I know the HTPC+NAS solution isn't popular around here (for good reasons if i may add), but at this point in time it will have to do. I will start off with a SSD + 1 or 2 HDD's so the noise isn't going to be much of a issue here. In the near future, as the HDD number/noise grows, some parts will probably be recycled into a NAS and a standalone HTPC will be built.
In the meantime...
CPU: Intel i5 3570K
Mobo: Asus P8H77-I
Case: Lian Li PC-Q25
PSU: ?
CPU Cooler: ?
RAM: ?
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB
HDD: 1 WD Red 2TB + 1 WD Green 3TB
These are some of the parts i picked so far and i would appreciate some advice since this is my first ever build. I chose the P8H77-I because of the 6 SATA drive connectors it has (something rare among mini-ITX mobo's).
I'm kinda clueless about the PSU though. I will probably add a discrete GPU in the future (something like a HD 6670 or a HD 7770) for occasional gaming and i'm not sure about the power requirements of such build:
- Would a Seasonic S12II 380W or a 430W be enough?
- Are the Seasonic worth the premium over a, say, Corsair CX430? My options are somewhat limited where i'm at and the Seasonic price is almost double the Corsair;
- I read elsewhere that this Lian Li Case requires a 140mm maximum PSU depth and all above options seem to fit this requirement.
Regarding the CPU Cooler: I was going for a Big Shuriken 2 but apparently it would conflict with the PCI graphics card. The maximum cooler height specification say 80mm. I really need help here. The RAM will also depend on this.
RAM: See above. Would the Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB 2x4GB CL9 be ok?
I also read the Lian Li Fans are somewhat noisy. This case comes with 140mm and a 120mm fans. Any recommendations for replacement?
I'm i missing something here? Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks.

I've seen some builds where they did this very thing. Good luck! |

Thanks for the comments Gort.
While most parts are (finally) chosen, i'm still having issues picking the CPU cooler. Are there any decent CPU coolers that won't conflict with the mini-ITX PCI slot, or should i just go with the stock cooler? Anyone? Thanks.

I would add to the "hide" comment that if you are going to hide it, you don't need something as nice looking and expensive as the PC-Q25. You could just go with something like the Antec 300 and save $100. Then go micro-ATX to have some extra slots for tuners, etc. and a lot of expansion room for HDDs and all the space you'd every want for cooling. If you're not going to hide it -- PC-Q25 is a nice case. --- Blog: http://outsidethestb.blogspot.com Website: http://www.ecosmartpc.com Looking for these?
